So who was on the tour and how did they get their “Names of the Outback”. Rob “The Bush Tucker Man” - always pointing out the plants and what we could and couldn’t eat. Also for cooking for us most nights. Anne “Chux” - with a Chux cloth at the ready for the smallest spill or as a substitute beach towel Peter “Sir David Attenbrough” - camera constantly at the ready was heard to say “if I get one good shot in 300 it’s worth it” Julia “Jane Goodall” - camera also always ready for that great shot Warwick “Tarzan” - for amazing dives from waterhole banks and rocks Elyse “Diver” - for NOT wanting to ever Dive into a waterhole. Nicole “Scrub” - Czech for “chicken” and her performance jumping into a waterhole. Becky “Napoleon” - from Eva who’s sister was a similar to Bec and was nicknamed Napoleon. Kim “Mouse” - for staying up most of the night listening and looking for two of the tiniest mice in the Outback. Phil “Water Boy” - that’s me for being caught carrying about 4 water bottles, one for each family member, and offering to carry more to help others. Les “Crocodile Dundee” - for vanquishing the snake in the tent—it was really a leather belt but it was dark and Joan insisted something was there. Joan “Halfway” - for the classic line at the circular base walk of Uluru. “Can I go just Halfway?” To which Rob said “Sure but you have to walk the other half back” Petra “Pinch” and Christian “Punch” - need I say more, first of the month and the Aussie tradition of “Pinch and a Punch for first of the month”. Horst “boing” - for saying “Boing” to press the button on the camera. Heidi “Heidi” - for being like Heidi in the classic movie of the same name. Eva “Gretel” - for the wonderful Johnny and Mary—I mean Hansel and Gretel story around the campfire. Petr “Unkie Pete” and “Doc” - he was the one who strapped Beckys ankle when it was twisted on the Kings Canyon walk and like an Uncle to her from then on. |
