Munda Biddi Pilgrimage
Winery Tour Day – Friday September 9: Drive to Augusta via Margaret River
Not two mobile churches today – no, with no bikes and a well-earned thirst it was all aboard a single mobile church with every pew filled for the Winery Tour day. Richard very kindly offered to be the designated driver.
First stop was the jetty at Busselton which is over 2.2 kilometres long.
Margaret River for coffee, cakes and a look at the shops. The on the coast road through massive stands of trees to Augusta and a look out on the coast. Awesome 360 degree views of the very south west of this immense continent.
Back on board the pilgrims were hungry so a stop at Watershed wines (http://www.watershedwines.com.au/home?intro=0) was just what the elders asked for. Watershed is handsomely presented with a wine tasting areas near the car park which you move through to reach the café and restaurant areas. The café was perfect fare with the opportunity to sit on the balcony and overlook the grape vines.
Feeling refreshed the pilgrims headed to the very substantial and older Leeuwin Estate Winery (http://leeuwinestate.com.au/) which has a large natural amphitheatre for annual performances.
Then on to Clares favourite - Mad Fish / Howard Park (http://www.madfishwines.com.au/) . A modern winery with a charm and character about that was most appealing. And the wine was bloody good too.
Last stop was Bootleg Brewery (http://bootlegbrewery.com/brewery.html) which was had many patrons sharing in the amber ales that evening. Needless to say the members of the Church and Convent took little time to attract many news followers and believers as they partook in a lively game of Jenga. The local patrons were on their feet, some speaking tongues (or was that just laughing loudly), as select pilgrims defied the laws of nature as they built towers to the heavens from little blocks of wood.
Dinner at the beautiful old Rose Hotel that evening before enjoy a six pack of Mad Fish and a game of "Muck Up Your Neighbour". A classic card game over which to enjoy a wine or four and many a laugh.
