Munda Biddi Pilgrimage
Day 1 - Sunday September 4: Mundaring Sculpture Park to Brookton Highway
Some breaking of bread, juice, coffees and teas to start the traditional Holy day of riding and first day of the pilgrimage in saddle. With the faithful TomTom to guide the clergy we headed to Mundaring Sculpture Park on a somewhat overcast morning for the start of the Munda Biddi Trail pilgrimage (http://mundabiddi.org.au/). Light rain didn’t deter the believers as they strapped on provisions and mounted the trusty steads for the very first leg. Phil and Kim choose to drive the vans to the first meeting point which was the intersection of Lookwood and Walnut Roads (near the Observatory). They managed to squeeze in a trip to Kalamunda for coffee and the markets then rode a short distance to meet others. The first leg of the pilgrimage saw some challenges with JohnO blowing a tyre and Robyn with derailleur damage.
Lunch time back at the mobile churches (the vans) was a chance to gather our
thoughts and replenish the souls for the afternoon adventure.
That afternoon Lyndy and JohnO drove, and Kim and Phil rode for the first time
with the congregation all the way to the corner of Patterson and Pickering Brook
Roads. JD provided Kim excellent mentoring and guidance on the spiritual
path. Paul was in able support with visual record keeping in hand and on
helmet. Karin, Heather, Clare and Robyn were setting a solid pace on the
middle stage of day one.
Mid-afternoon the procession regathered at the mobile churches with the final stage seeing JohnO, Lyndy, Robyn, Kim and Clare move the vans to the final meeting place. The riders headed on dirt and trails via Carinyah Campsite then onto Brookton Highway for pickup at the mountain bike trail.
“Wada wundaful e’vening of d’lightful curry and nan. Oh my gudness, gracius me.” Yes, Phil was in his element with Indian takeaway from Spices on Ocean http://www.spicesonocean.com.au/
