Barrington Tops March / April 2004

Sunday April 4 - it's been awhile since we all rode on all four days of the four day adventures.  The last few trips have been really tough and resulted in either a day off or sleep in and early drive home on the Sunday.  This time it was different.  Better planning I guess and great food thanks to Yarro.  Anyway, Sunday we had a nice early start heading south on the unamed parrallel track to Watergauge Trail.  Ranger told us not to go on Watergauge 'cause of some fungus that was spreading.  We had some Duke of Eds camp near us that night and we passed them on the way.  Also passed a group of Pathfinders and a few others on the trail.  Weekends are like Pitt Street out here.  We had fun cross the creek on the way to Big Hole were we meet this guy who looks like he lives out there.  Almost admitted that he did.

Tough climb out from Big Hole south to Junction Hole Trail and then an even tougher climb up Aeroplane Hill.  Finally we made it to Junction Pools and crossed over to the Barrington Trail.  We headed north for about 9ks 'til we reached the Little Murray Camp.  Time for a "Fry up" - bacon, eggs, toast, coffee - love this car camping.  But then I love the living out at places like Big Hole that are really remote too.

We had seven of us now and four cars too, with much less weight given the food was all eaten and wine and beer all drunk, the drive out was much easier than the one in.

Scenic drive down the mountain to Gloucester and a nice coffee, milk shake, cake and chips stop before saying farewells.

The drive home was pretty good with a short traffic jam before Mt White - as usual.

Can't wait for next year.  It's so good to have this time away.  It's just the bike, the trail, the stars and friends.
