Whitsundays 2003 (cont'd)
Wednesday October 8: Nicole and Bec woke up to a big surprise - "How'd we get here?". They slept right though the early morning cruise.
After a quick breakfast we headed off to Stonehaven and were lucky enough to pickup a mooring. So much easier than anchoring. Mike got the two Jet Skis and the tender into the water. We had a quick swim off the back of the boat, checked out the fringe reef right next to the boat and had some lunch - chicken in mango sauce - really good.
In the afternoon we headed in the tender to Langford Island which is really cool. At low tide there is a huge sand spit. At high tide it's just a small island.
Beautiful
sunset - again. Followed by BBQ. Really good meat.
Thursday October 9: Now this was fun. In the morning Mike and Phil circumnavigated Hayman Island with Nicole and Bec on the back of the Jet Skis. What a great way to see an island. We spotted turtles, eagles, heaps of fish. Got up close to the Hayman Island Yellow Sub and raced back to Prego. Amazing.
After lunch we went to "Boat Ramp" Beach - not sure that's it's really name but it looks like a boat ramp. We played football and checked out the stingrays and shells.
Back on board to watch other great sunset followed by Beef Stroganoff for dinner. Where does the day go?!
Friday October 10: In the morning Mike and Phil circumnavigated Hayman
Island again but this time with Kim and Colleen. Watched the seaplane pull
into Hayman. Like something out of a James Bond movie.
Once back at the boat it was a quick switch over to the tender for fishing with Bec. She caught four fish and the local Sea Eagle on Hayman got two of them after we released them. Spectacular to watch the eagle grab the fish.
Snorkelling in the afternoon, biscuit rides and another great sunset, full moon and wonderful dinner.
Saturday October 11: Our last full day in the Whitsundays and we
started with a trip to "Hole in the Rock" Beach - again, not sure it's the real
name but hey, it works. We took heaps of photos at this beautiful little
beach. Such a nice spot looking out over Hayman Island. Finally
we headed back to Prego for a long last snorkel.
Around 1:30 we set off for Hamilton Island and had Fish and Chips prepared by Colleen on the way.
Pizza delivered for dinner and lots of laughs - Llewellyn, crashes on the biscuit, fishing stories, the storm and mooring in pyjamas, .... Some of the neighbours wanted what we were on.
