Day 3 - Hiroshima to Kansei
We ate buns and bread from the European style bakery for breakfast and headed to the tram to take us to A Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial and museum.
The museum was very good information in English and Japanese. 1945 August 6, 8:15am was a devastating moment in Hiroshima. Over 140,000 lives lost in an instant. Many we vaporised, many more were burned horrifically and others left with mutations of genetic material resulting in cancer. Even unborn children were affected. In some instances people would look ok but days later the radiation burns would emerge resulting in a slow and painful death.
The story of Sadako is a feature exhibit. Sadako contracted leukaemia from the A bomb and believed that if she made 1,000 origami cranes she would get better. Sadly she died but to this day children around the world make origami cranes and they are sent to Hiroshima and hung in glass cabinets near the Childrens Memorial.
We spent nearly three hours at the Peace Memorial and Museum then headed back to the hotel to check out.
We grabbed a Starbucks at the station and ate Vita-Brits and European Bakery for lunch on the Shinkansen to Kansei Airport via Shin-Osaka. After checking into the Hotel Nikko again we had dinner at the Italian restaurant on the restaurant level of the AeroPlaza. Nice food.
A bit more Japanese baseball on TV and another English language movie then sleep.
